Sandra Galef (Democratic Party) was a member of the New York State Assembly, representing District 95. She assumed office in 2013. She left office on January 1, 2023.

Galef (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the New York State Assembly to represent District 95. She won in the general election on November 3, 2020. She was disqualified from the Serve America Movement Party primary scheduled on June 23, 2020.

Galef served as a New York state representative for the 90th district from 1993-2013 and for the 94th district from 2013-2023. Her other political experience includes being President of the New York State Association of Counties, a county legislator and a minority leader for Westchester County.

Biography

Galef earned her B.S. in education from Purdue University and her M.Ed. in education from the University of Virginia[1] Her professional experience includes teaching in various schools and hosting two television shows; Dear Sandy and Speak-out with Sandy Galef.

On November 4, 2008, Galef won re-election to the New York State Assembly, District 90, defeating opponents William Gouldman (R) and Richard Quaglietta (WF).[14][15]

Galef raised $62,458 for her campaign while Gouldman raised $73,342 and Quaglietta raised $0.[16]

  • Require that the cost implications of legislation are included in all pending legislation
  • Ensure pork spending is subject to regulations that would mandate equal distribution of funds
  • Consolidate services at local and county levels

  • Ensure that members forfeit retirement and pension benefits if convicted of crimes related to public employment
  • Make removal from office mandatory for any public official convicted of offenses against any person which involve physical injury, sexual assault, restraint or intimidation
  • Created new reporting requirements for political consultants
  • Strengthened lobbying disclosures
  • Enhanced disclosure of political and business relationships

Education Reform

  • Expand the BOCES model, which is proven to cut costs and increase efficiency through sharing and consolidation of services
  • Bring openness to collective bargaining
  • Fully funded the GAP funding for schools in the 2016 budget
  • Work to fully fund Foundation Aid for schools in 2017 budget
  • Continue to reform the Common Core and teacher evaluation process[17]
