December 31, 2024: Fifty-nine percent (59%) of voters say they will be awake when the New Year arrives at midnight on December 31. A Napolitan News Service national survey conducted by RMG Research found 23% will not be awake.

The survey also found that 54% will have dinner with family and friends, 43% will say a prayer, and 43% will have a beer or alcoholic beverage at some point on December 31. Thirty-eight percent (38%) will watch the ball drop at Times Square, 31% will watch football, and 17% will dance.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on December 27-28, 2024. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
