May 22, 2025: Twenty-six (26) states currently have right-to-work laws. Right-to-work is a term describing state legislation that prohibits employees from being required to join or financially support a labor union. In 2024, Michigan became the first state to repeal such a law in 58 years. Before that, the last state to repeal a right-to-work law was Indiana in 1965. In 2012, Indiana lawmakers enacted a new right-to-work law.
