My top three priorities are to:

Restore opportunities by supporting our education system.
Build vibrant neighborhoods by developing an affordable housing plan that is sustainable and accessible.

Create a two-way government that takes the lead on vital city matters while also providing a forum for contrarian opinions and counterintuitive solutions.
There are so many. I’ll just say education, economics, foreign affairs, and criminal justice.
I’ve been influenced by “Romance of the Three Kingdoms,” a historical novel written by Lou Guanzhong in the 14th century. The novel is quite long, but I’ve always especially enjoyed these two lines:

Do no evil because it is a small evil; leave undone no good because it is a small good. Only with wisdom and virtue can people be won.
Elected officials must maintain their integrity, treat everyone with dignity and respect, put the needs of the community above their own, and display personal courage.
I’m a listener, and I believe the best way to find solutions is to listen to the collective voice of my community.

I have strong analytical skills and I understand our legal system.
I have small-business experience and I have studied economics extensively.

I’ve served in a variety of roles that are vital in a complex and diverse society, such as suicide prevention trainer, youth mentor, equal opportunity leader, substance abuse prevention leader, and combat lifesaver.
Councilmembers must serve the community! This means councilmembers must: engage with the community to identify problems, set legislative priorities based on community needs, and monitor legislative outcomes to ensure good ideas are retained while bad ideas are retired.
My first job was at the Video Trader in the Brice Outlet Mall. I was 16 when I started and, since I was often the only employee on duty, I quickly learned how to manage a small retail business. I was there for about two years.
I believe it’s beneficial to have a combination of education and experience that enables councilmembers to be effective, regardless of previous political or government experience. I also believe that it’s important for councilmembers to bring something unique to the table for the benefit of the council and the entire community.
