My name is Sebastian Griffin and I am running for the Idaho House of Representatives, Seat 12A.

I am a proud fifth-generation Idahoan who was raised in Nampa. I was a Senate Page Intern and one of the youngest people in Idaho to author and pass legislation. I am a staunch conservative, an advocate for decreasing property taxes, and I firmly stand with our law enforcement and public safety employees. I am a champion for educational freedom and choice, and I am a small business owner who is completely against government interference.

Before announcing my candidacy, I prayed thoughtfully on this and with the support of my wife, Macy, made the decision to run. But, before I made that decision, I wanted to dig deep about what my intent was in doing so. I have dedicated my life thus far to inspiring people, and my candidacy includes that. I am committed to educational freedom and educational choice. And, while I am available to serve, I am honored to serve the community in which I grew up, reside and the community I love. I have deep roots in Nampa, and it is my desire to not only serve you but lead all of us into the next great generation.
  • Educational Choice: I am an advocate and a trailblazer for education. Not only in the US, but throughout the state, we are seeing a shift in our education system, and we must ensure it is a shift in the right direction! At 18 years old, I had Co-Authored, Lobbyed, and with the help of many individuals got SB1060 Passed which would allow highly motivated students to Opt-out of State Requirments to achieve their dreams, with a high school diploma, a bill that is the first of its kind!

Our parents and the community must be a part of the discussion when it comes to the education of our youth! We need educational choice, and educational freedom to see the utmost success for our state. It’s what we are paying our taxes for, right?
  • Taxes Reform and Property Tax Reduction: I believe, as Murray Rothbard argued, that taxation is theft and tax resistance is therefore legitimate. Idaho is one of only four states that tax groceries at a normal state tax rate. I find this morally reprehensible. Almost as reprehensible as taxing a persons income. I believe their state needs a Jurassic overhaul in both the grocery tax and sales tax. I recognize the need for taxation to pay for appropriate and legitimate government expenditures such as roads and defense, but we must take a macro view of the proper use of the force confiscation of a free–men and free–women's personal property.
  • Public Safety: Our Police, Fire Fighters and Emergency Medical Services are vital to keeping Nampa Safe and Free. If I am elected I will work to ensure that these critical public services are properly funded and supported!
I am personally most passionate about educational policy. I believe we are in a pivotal time in our country, and in our state, to enact lasting and proactive policy change. We have an opportunity before us to make major shifts in our state to advocate for a more full and choice-based educational system.

It is time to get serious about reducing property taxes. I will be a tireless advocate for property tax reduction and I will introduce property tax relief legislation on my first day in the office!
