Sherman Greer was a member of the Memphis City Council in Tennessee, representing District 1. Greer assumed office on January 8, 2019. Greer left office on January 1, 2020.

Greer ran for re-election to the Memphis City Council to represent District 1 in Tennessee. Greer lost in the general runoff election on November 14, 2019.

Greer obtained a master’s in strategic leadership at the University of Memphis and received his bachelor’s degree in political science and communications from the University of Tennessee at Martin. At the time of his appointment to the city council, Greer was executive director of governmental relations and director of athletics at Southwest Tennessee Community College. He previously served as district director for U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen (D) and as deputy district director to U.S. Rep. Harold Ford, Jr.[1]

Greer served for nine years on the Memphis Alcohol Commission. He also previously served on the Memphis and Shelby County Film Commission and on the boards of the Frayser Community Development Corporation (CDC), United Housing CDC, the Predatory Lending Task Force of the Federal Reserve Bank, and as treasurer of the Association for Film and Television in Tennessee political action committee.[1]
