Campaign themes

2016

Meyer's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

The economy & job creation

This is Buffalo. We have some of the hardest working people in the entire nation. It's time we deliver the jobs that our people deserve: good paying, steady jobs by companies that won't get up and leave when times get tough. We know a thing or two about hard work, and it's about time that our government start working for us, not against us, when it comes to job creation.

Steve Meyer has an 8-point jobs plan to get people back to work and to get the economy moving again. He believes that small businesses are real job creators, and we must do more to make WNY small-business friendly.

Reduce our taxes & increase fiscal responsibility

Western New York has some of the highest taxes in the entire nation. Our property taxes continue to sit at oppressive rates, and the burden is too much to bear for many of our most vulnerable families. Our tax code is antiquated and unfair, and our government has been fiscally irresponsible for far too long. We deserve a fair tax code, one that benefits us as a whole, not hurts us as an individual.

Steve is fighting for common-sense tax reform that will make life easier for the average Western New Yorker.

Fire corrupt politicians & enact ethics reforms

Steve Meyer has one of the toughest ethics reform plans the nation has ever seen. The founder of the State Legislative Awareness Project, Steve believes in a transparent and open government where the people can truly be the boss of the electeds. We live in a world today where billionaires can easily buy elections, and Steve thinks that we can't wait any longer for reform.

Steve wants to fire corrupt politicians and strip the pensions of politicians who are convicted of corruption charges. We need to reform our campaign finance plan and create restrictions on politicians who make outside income in conjuction with their elected position. We should be electing people to lead us, not to make money off of us.

Fund our schools

Steve feels very strongly about funding our public schools here in Western New York. As Assemblyman, he will work to make sure that all children have good access to quality education- education that sets a high standard for the rest of the world. He'll work to make sure that students recieve an education that makes sense, an education that helps them grow as a student and as a person.

Steve also believes that our teachers deserve an environment where they have all the tools necessary to inspire our children to learn more. Well funded schools provide great resources to teachers and children, and it's time we put education as a top priority in New York State.[1]

2014

Meyer's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[3]

Jobs

  • Excerpt: "Steve would fight for jobs that pay a living wage, jobs that do not take advantage of the people of Western New York, and jobs that contribute to our collective community."

Taxes/Fiscal Responsibility

  • Excerpt: "The Empire State has been plagued by fiscal irresponsibility for decades. As a result, the honest people of Western New York have been forced to pay some of the highest taxes in the nation. Together, we need to work to make New York a more efficient government. We must create new standards for our agencies, eliminate wasteful spending, and modernize our tax code to ensure that it is not disproportionately hurting those who are always hit the hardest."

Government Ethics Reform

  • Excerpt: "Together, we can pass full and complete ethics reform. To start, we should require that legislators disclose all information regarding any clients that they may represent who do business with the State."

Education

  • Excerpt: "Together, we must fight hard to not only maintain our high standard of education, but moreover, to ensure that all New Yorker's have equal access to public education. Steve believes that in general, teachers across the country are underpaid but also under evaluated. We must reward our great teachers with what they deserve while also ensuring that we hire and keep only the best educators that the world has to offer."
