My name is Tena Monson and I'm running for a 4-year term seat for the City of Arden Hills.

I have found that City leadership needs new ideas, needs to do more to provide safe walking trails and needs to capitalize on growth opportunities for the city and its citizens. My background in development and clean energy provides a solid foundation to navigate the challenges that large scale developments, like TCAAP, can bring.

I’m running for office to break the deadlock currently surrounding TCAAP. To do this, we need several pro-development Council members, and that’s why Gregg, Emily, Tom and I are running as a team - www.advanceardenhills.com. TCAAP will provide a much-needed expansion to the tax base.

I am passionate about safe, connected walking trails, especially as many are working from home or have active families, like mine. A walkable, bike friendly, and safe way to be active is important to many in our community. Being proactive about ensuring our safety, especially around schools, for trails and sidewalks would be a priority for me.

Finally, I whole-heartedly support resident-led efforts, from chicken coops and food trucks, to removing barriers for residents to add value to their homes.

  • As opposed to the current council, I plan to actively work on connecting existing trails and improving the safety of walkers and bikers. I’d also represent the families with young children in all aspects of our daily lives living in Arden Hills, from Parks and Rec to safety near schools and in neighborhoods.
  • Review and determine where unnecessary barriers are holding back homeowners from adding value to their homes.
  • Break the stalemate with Ramsey County and complete a Master Development Agreement for the TCAAP development. This development is the growth engine for the future of Arden Hills and the current council has, and will continue to, delay it.
As an energy expert, working in the renewable energy field for the last nine years, energy and environmental policy are integrated into my day-to-day life, and I look forward to doing the same with the City. I believe there is much the city can do to improve its environmental footprint and reduce its energy use. Citizens in Arden Hills love the trees, parks and lakes that fill the city, and we should protect those resources. We can do more to remove buckthorn from our parks and protect our water ways without breaking budgets. Additionally, a simple energy audit will identify the low hanging fruit that can save taxpayers’ dollars. Creating a longer-term plan - a Climate Action Plan, for example, will help guide the city into the future in an efficient and clean way that will ensure we are not exacerbating problems of today. Lastly, it is important to ensure that TCAAP is developed the most energy efficient way from the beginning.
