“ | What is your political philosophy?
Participating in the 2017 Women's March on Washington energized me to get involved locally. I realized this state senate seat has not had two or more candidates for a long time, and that as a constituent my voice and those of my friends and neighbors weren't represented. If Nevada is ever to rise from last place in Education, we must increase per student spending, reduce classroom size, increase educator and support staff wages, and reinstate technical and vocational training where that has not been done. We are doing Nevada's kids, and our state's future, a disservice if we don't. I don't want kids to be in classrooms of 45 students; I don't want kids in lower income neighborhoods to receive less; I don't want public school employees to need social services assistance because they don't make enough money for a good quality of life. I hope to join new legislators in creating a strong, equitably funded, successful public school system for all Nevadans. In order to compete nationally for new and diverse economic opportunities, Nevada must increase our minimum wage and make sure businesses offer living wages for their employees. We can't attract new residents and businesses if the cost of living and wages are out of sync. Current housing costs leave many Nevadans out of the equation, and homelessness is on the rise. In addition to addressing Education and Living/Housing issues, I want to ensure that all Nevadans see equity and equality in their daily lives, and are included in the conversations we have about quality of life. People of color, members of the LGBT+ community, Nevadans with disabilities - all have value and something to offer and if we discount them we shortchange our future. [2] |
