I am a 56 year resident of WSD3, who attended school here from K-12, graduating from Widefield HS in 1985. Both of my kids also attended from K-12 graduating from Mesa Ridge HS. I was also recently a 7 year employee of the district, working as the Library EA at Widefeild HS until 2021. I have been through many incarnations of this district and have seen that in the last few years our schools have been infiltrated by ideologies that do not mesh with the philosophies that have governed our district since its inception. And that is that all kids deserve the same education no matter their demographic. The recent attempts to implement such things as CRT and DEI (among other troublesome ideologies) are antithetical to that end. I believe our plummeting test scores are a testament to the fact that we are focusing on the wrong things and neglecting to prepare our children for the futures they deserve.

We need to get our focus back to actual learning; where knowledge and academic excellence are the priority.

I am a true conservative candidate focused on; Keeping toxic ideologies and agendas out of curriculum, schools and facilities; Restoring parental rights when deciding curriculum. policy and school safety; Transparency in the budget and current programs already in schools, such as CRT, Culturally Responsive Instruction, Comp Sex ed., and SEL, etc.

Restoring academic excellence and American Exceptionalism as priorities for our students and staff
  • Kids come first and Parents are in Charge!
  • Transparency in budget and curriculum; keeping toxic ideologies from our schools and policy.
  • Academic excellence and American exceptionalism as a priority for students and staff.
I am very passionate about restoring academic excellence as a priority in our district. Lately, ( 2020 ) there have been expenditures on things like DEI directors and staff trainings on "unconscious bias' to the tune of over 450,000 dollars. Just let that sink in.... 450,000 dollars! Money that could have been used to improve test scores or buy books or playground equipment or needed upgrades to ailing schools and facilities.... instead it was wasted on our district's attempt to join the national fray on a topic we know all too well.... DIVERSITY. Our district has, almost since its inception, been notoriously diverse. (Presumably due to its proximity to Ft.Carson.)The need to justify that to outside influences has taken away from our goal of educating every child the same and giving each child the best education we possibly can. It is more than disappointing that our previous board and Superintendent diverted from this mission and unapologetically squandered our money in such a reckless manner. The loss of this revenue and the lost time due to COVID, have only made it that much harder for our kids to become proficient in things like math and reading. Our kids deserve better than this! We need to turn away from the national fray and focus on doing things the way we always have;THE WIDEFIELD WAY. Doing this has served us well in the past and a return to it in all earnestness will do so again.
Integrity, honesty, passion, and unwavering commitment to the community they represent, and above all else, the realization that as an elected official you work for the people who voted for you (and even the ones who didn't).
The core responsibilities of a school board member are to make sure that all people are being represented; that their money is being used wisely and to the benefit of all; and that their children are safe and learning all the skills they need for their future endeavors.
The primary job of a school board member is to represent the people of the district in its entirety. As a school board member, I would work at the bequest of the constituents of my district. I would work to represent their needs and to do the work they elected me to do. And that is to ensure that their money is being spent on matters of education and nothing else. It would be my job to oversee that process with all due diligence and scrutiny and to hold all other employees of the district to those same standards.
In order to build a better working relationship with parents in the district, I would propose having informal town hall type meetings that would afford parents the opportunity to discuss recent board topics or any other ideas or concerns they might have. Having access to their school board directors in an informal setting would go a long way in creating a partnership between the school and the parents. that is so vital in the education process.
