I am refugee resettlment professional and community college ESL instructor with ten years of experience on Advisory Boards with the Town of Chapel Hill, most recently serving my third year on the Town of Chapel Hill Planning Commission. I also provide community service as an advocate for parks and greenways on the Friends of Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation, and an advocate for gun violence prevention with North Carolinians Against Gun Violence. I have lived in Chapel Hill for 11 years with my wife and two children who go to public school and enjoy Rainbow Soccer!
  • We need to prioritize critical services in our budget, spend wisely, and grow sources of revenue beyond residential property taxes if Chapel Hill is going to be sustainable into the future.
  • We have to build more parks, greenways, and housing to keep up with community needs and keep Chapel Hill a competitive place to live and start a business. We also need to build consenuse and public confidence as we approach tough decisions on how to do more with less funding. We have to follow through on our plans to build housing on transit corridors and build the greenways to connect people safely around town.
  • We need to be bold and apply creative solutions to long-standing issues. We will need to pursue public private partnerships and other strategies to deliver on projects and plans for the town.
Weigh all sides of an issue and do what is best for current and future residents to create a safe, vibrant, healthy and fun community to live in, with the funds we have.
I was a community resource coordinator for a local refugee resettlement office. My job was to work with congregations and other community partners to support newly arriving refugees. The most fun part was picking up new refugee families at the airport and helping them adjust to their new home in the USA.
