Candidates

  • Former head of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Scott Hassett[15]
    • Approximately six weeks before the general election, the Wisconsin State Board of Bar Examiners, the agency responsible for evaluating attorneys, informed Democratic candidate Scott Hassett that he did not meet the qualifications to practice law in the state. Hassett’s law license was on inactive status for five years beginning in 2004. In July 2009, the Wisconsin State Board of Bar Examiners reinstated his license after he completed 30 credit hours of continuing legal education. A rule change two months earlier increased the required continuing legal education hours from 30 to 60, meaning Hassett did not meet the updated requirement to regain active status. On September 24, 2010, the board voted to allow Hassett to continue practicing, citing that he and other reinstated attorneys may have received inaccurate information from board staff regarding the number of required hours.[16]
