Tucker attended North Carolina State University. He became the owner of Parks Heating and Cooling in 2000 after working as a factory representative for International Comfort Products. When he served in the state Senate, Tucker had served as a member of the Weddington City Council and as a Union County commissioner. He also previously served in the United States Navy.[1]
