Three seats on the Wood County Schools school board were up for general election on May 13, 2014. Lawrence Hasbargen, Peggy Smith and Jimmy Asbury defeated Jim Fox, Tad M. Wilson, Ron Tice, Steve Smith, Ami Shaver, Rene Imler and Ponnie Piggott-Sampson for the three positions.

Wood County Schools is located in Wood County, West Virginia. Wood County was home to 86,569 residents in 2013, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] Wood County Schools was the third-largest school district in West Virginia, serving 13,462 students during the 2010-2011 school year.[2]

Demographics

Wood County outperformed the rest of West Virginia in terms of higher education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 18.8% of Wood County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 17.9% for West Virginia as a whole. The median household income in Wood County was $42,734 compared to $40,400 for the state of West Virginia. The poverty rate in Wood County was 16.0% compared to 17.6% for the entire state.[1]
