Bucknam's campaign provided the following campaign statement to Ballotpedia:[2]
| “ | I am a small town lawyer mostly representing individuals in civil litigation cases. I have found Vermonter's voices and concerns are drowned out by the special interests in Montpelier, and state employees who, instead of acting like public servants, often act like public masters. My AG's office will set up an ombud or watchdog program whereby Vermonters can contact us if they are not getting a fair shake from state government. We will advocate for Vermonters caught in those situations, and shine the light on government practices that are unfair, foolish, or ineffective.
We will also work with Vermonters to help stop the drug abuse epidemic--to reduce the use-- of opioids, opiates and other illegal drugs. These drugs are not only killing our kids and devastating our families, but overwhelming our justice system, so the Attorney General has a role to play in stopping this epidemic. I intend to provide leadership on this issue, by bringing together every Vermonter who is touched by this epidemic so that we can work together to stop this epidemic in its tracks.[3] |
