Campaign website
Salters' campaign website stated the following:
The Issues
Healthcare
Making sure that the City workers have a comprehensive plan that provides adequate care and does not burden their pockets.
Environment
Planting more trees, hiring youth and available residents to keep our streets clean
Property Tax/Rent
Work with the Governor to restore the tax rebates once given to all homeowners every year, revisiting the tax and water rates
Infrastructure
Establish a watch team to make sure that the work being done in the City is monitored and reported
Fiscal Management
Transparency of all budgeted funds and expenditures by qualified personnel; no more paying exorbitant salaries to four people for one position; cutting ridiculous salaries and giving the funds to DPW and sanitation workers
Economic Development
All developments will be based on what is being provided for the residents of Newark; providing jobs and truly affordable housing.
Affordability
No longer using the HUD nor Essex County AMI's for low to moderate income housing
Education
Work with the BOE to ensure that the 1.5 Billion dollars gets used properly for our children's education and enrichment.
Housing
Rescinding the ordinance which allows individuals to build anything, anywhere, thus overcrowding our City
Slumlords
Amend/Rescind the ordinance that allows the landlords to raise the rent up to 5% every year.

U.S. House
Debra Salters completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2024. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Salters' responses.
| Collapse all
- We NEED affordable housing, and I am not talking about what the mayor and city council are considering affordable; where one needs to make a minimum of $80,000 annually to survive. The average resident makes between $16,.000 - $36,000 annuaIly, and according to the U.S. rubric, that is below the poverty line. Affordable for the average resident means low - moderate, not paying more than 30% of their income for a roof over their heads.
- We NEED Livable wages that will allow the average resident to live in what our urban mayors and city councils call affordable. How about starting with the minimum wage being $20/hr. now, not down the line?
- Re-directing some of the trillions given in foreign aid to District 10 for the betterment of our communities and research for illnesses plaguing our people such as CD-10.
Public health is also a major priority. We need to figure out a way to make mental health facilities available to the public in all areas of District 10, as well as healthcare for those in need.
Because then, the quality of life for We, The People, and our issues don't become rote to those in power because of some back door deal that has been made.
