- My top priority is to ensure that the Office of the Treasurer/Tax Collector operates equitably and transparently, and that citizens receive the utmost level of service when they interact with the office, and to ensure to the best of my ability that big corporations in our County pay their fair share of taxes.
- Restore data integrity and increase confidence in the accuracy of documents at the office of Treasurer-Tax Collector. A former Chief Information Officer responsible for computer system at both Assessor and Tax Collector Departments pleaded guilty to a felony. The man diverted public funds to his wife’s company. There is a need to thoroughly audit the computer system and make sure that the Department and its computer systems comply with the law.
- I will implement a new computer system. Its increased accessibility will enable taxpayers and customers to interact with the Department’s personnel not only via phone but via web and mobile computing. There is a need to prevent untimely data delivery which, in turn, may lead to reduced tax collection or could cause OVER-taxation of everyday San Diegans.
