Mary Palmer ran for the District 5 seat on the Atlanta Public Schools Board of Education in a general election on November 5, 2013. She lost to Steven Lee in a runoff election on December 3, 2013.

Palmer has a B.S. in Computer Science from Jackson State University and an Exec M.S. in Management of Technology from Georgia Tech. She has worked in IT for Coca-cola, IBM and Siemens. She has couched hundreds of students throught Play It Smart, is a founding member of Professional Parent Liaison & Parent Educator, a member of the State Board of Ed Parent Advisory Council, an officer in the Atlanta Council of PTAs, a chair of NPU Education and Transportation, an organizing member of Step Up for Public Schools and an School Board Rep for Mays Cluster and Community Parent Group. Palmer is also active member of Antioch Baptist Church and a mother of three.[1]

Palmer ran for the District 5 seat against Charles Lawrence, Steven Lee and Raynard Johnson on November 5, 2013. She faced Steven Lee in a runoff election on December 3, 2013.
