Four of the seven seats on the Conroe Independent School District school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. Position 4 incumbent Datren Williams, Position 5 incumbent Scott Kidd, Position 6 incumbent John Husbands, and Position 7 challenger Scott Moore won election without opposition. Moore was elected to replace Jessica Powell, who did not file for re-election.[1]

The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees consists of seven at-large member elected to four-year terms. The filing period for Texas school board candidates running in fall elections started on July 23, 2016. The final day for candidates to file their applications for ballot placement was August 22, 2016. A candidate for school board in Texas must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the school district. The application for ballot placement also states that candidates cannot have felony convictions or court judgments verifying total mental incapacity on their records.[2]
The deadline to register to vote for the November election was October 11, 2016. The early voting period started on October 24, 2016, and concluded on November 4, 2016.[3]

Conroe Independent School District is located in Montgomery County, Texas. The county seat of Montgomery County is Conroe. Montgomery County was home to 537,559 residents in 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[6] The district was the 14th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 55,009 students.[7]
Demographics
Montgomery County outperformed the state of Texas in terms of higher education achievement from 2010 to 2014. The United States Census Bureau found that 31.7 percent of Montgomery County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 27.1 percent for Texas as a whole. The median household income in Montgomery County was $68,840, compared to $52,576 for the state of Texas. The poverty rate in Montgomery County was 10.9 percent, compared to 15.9 percent for the entire state.[6]
