Middletown Township School District is a school district in New Jersey. The district was the 19th-largest school district in the state in the 2014-2015 school year and served 10,054 students.[1]

Middletown Township School District is located in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

Middletown Township School District is located in central New Jersey in Monmouth County. The county seat is Freehold Borough. Monmouth County was home to an estimated 625,846 residents between 2010 and 2016, according to the United States Census Bureau.[2]

Demographics

Monmouth County outperformed New Jersey as a whole in terms of higher education achievement from 2011 to 2015. The United States Census Bureau found that 42.5 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree or higher, compared to 36.8 percent of state residents. The median household income of the county was $85,242, compared to $72,093 for the entire state. The poverty rate for the county was 7.5 percent, while it was 10.8 percent for the state as a whole.[2]

The superintendent of Middletown Township School District is William O. George III. He has served in the position since his appointment in 2011. George previously served as the superintendent of Hazlet Township Public Schools from 2007 to 2011.[3]

Members of the Board of Education are elected to three-year terms on a staggered basis. Three seats are up for election each year.

Public participation in board meetings

The Board of Education maintains the following policy regarding public participation at board meetings:[5]

The Board of Education meets twice each month. Once for a "workshop meeting" session, once for "regular monthly meeting" session. The public may attend any session, and is invited to speak at the "regular monthly meeting" sessions. There is a time limit which speakers are asked to observe so that more people may participate.

Academic performance

The New Jersey Department of Education administers annual standardized tests for math and English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency in every public school district. The New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJ ASK) tests student proficiency in grades three through eight.
