David E. Scholl was a candidate for the District 5 seat on the Okaloosa County School Board in Florida. He was defeated by incumbent Melissa Thrush in the general election on August 26, 2014.

The Okaloosa County general election on August 26, 2014, featured three seats up for election. Cindy Frakes lost her bid for re-election in District 1 to challenger Lamar White. In the District 5 race, incumbent Melissa Thrush defeated challenger David E. Scholl. The District 3 race advanced to the runoff election, which was held on November 4, 2014, as no candidate received 50 percent of the vote. Incumbent Rodney Walker and challenger Joseph Slusser were the top two vote-getters, defeating Christoffer Hyden.

Okaloosa County School District is based in Fort Walton Beach, a city in Okaloosa County, Florida. Okaloosa County is home to 193,811 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] Okaloosa County School District was the 25th-largest school district in Florida, serving 29,385 students during the 2011-2012 school year.[2]

Okaloosa County outperformed the rest of Florida in terms of higher education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 27.2 percent of Okaloosa County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 26.2 percent for Florida as a whole. The median household income in Okaloosa County was $54,118 compared to $47,309 for the state of Florida. The poverty rate in Okaloosa County was 12.5 percent compared to 15.6 percent for the entire state.[1]
