| “ | Davidson County School Board Candidate Platform Statement:
After years of helping the Boys and Girls Club put kids on the right track, I wondered if I could apply what I had learned to improving education in Davidson County. My first question was, how is the county doing at present? I discovered that the answer is to that question is unclear. Is the problem that we’re not measuring what we’re doing as well as we could? My background in technology has taught me that in order for improvements to be made to any system, we must first assess its current status; then, propose and prioritize solutions; and finally, measure results. I have examined the available research on what makes a school board effective, and the studies are remarkably consistent. Effective school boards are hungry for data, whether positive or negative; they set high expectations; they are accountability-driven; they actively support professional development; and they collaborate with staff and the community. If elected, I know I will need to enlist the aid of everybody who cares about quality education. I believe that if I can present straightforward facts about our strengths and weaknesses, I will get enthusiastic support from the community for aggressive, measurable improvement initiatives. |
