El Paso County, Texas, held a general election for the District 1 and 7 seats on the community college board of trustees on May 6, 2017. A runoff election in District 1 was scheduled for June 10, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was February 17, 2017. Bonnie Soria Najera defeated Joshua Carter in the general election for the District 7 seat on the El Paso Community College Board of Trustees.[2]

Najera told the El Paso Times that she supported a bond to supplement the cost of planned additions to El Paso Community College campuses. She said, "I don't think a bond will be supported by the voters but I think it's time. It could pass as long as the voters know why and the reasoning is clear and the board is very transparent in how the money is going to be used."[1]
