Nels Roseland is the North Carolina State Controller. He assumed office on July 1, 2022. His current term ends on July 30, 2029.

Roseland was appointed to the office by Governor of North Carolina Roy Cooper (D) on July 1, 2022, and was confirmed in February 2023 by the General Assembly of North Carolina to a full term that will expire on June 30, 2029. From 1999 to 2007 Roseland was also an elected member of the Cary Town Council in Cary, North Carolina.[1][2]

Biography

From February 1996 through March 2002, Roseland was a budget analyst for the North Carolina Office of State Budget & Management (NCOSBM). For nearly 15 years, through January 2017, he worked for the North Carolina Department of Justice, including a term as the chief of staff for the department. Roseland was the deputy state budget director for the NCOSBM for five years until July 2022.[3]

Roseland attended the University of Central Florida, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and business administration in 1990. In 1992, he graduated from Florida State University with a master’s degree in public finance.[4][5]
