I’m a trained policy analyst, community organizer, and public school teacher running a campaign independent of two part affiliation. I’m running as a representative of everyday people, who are otherwise kept out of decision making processes. I’m running in response to increased state-overreach and bigotry as a candidate who is willing to take the political risk necessary to coordinate strategy in response to pressure from state, and federal government. My focus is addressing the budget crisis in Houston, restoring funds that have been severely cut from critical city departments, while restoring the funds that belong to Houstonian tax payers by strengthen procurement practices and prevent subsidizing bad actors, such as landlords or city vendors who do not provide adequate work and safety standards. I’m a native Houstonian, raised by two immigrants from Argentina, and was born in District C, Houston.
  • Budget crisis that requires renegotiating critical department cuts, seeking other sources of revenue before placing burden on residents by increasing property hikes (a move that would bring scrutiny from our state attorney general), and ensuring basic city services are functional again, and have the oversight enforcement capacity needed to prevent waste and corruption.
  • Subsidence: the city is sinking at a rate of one quarter inch per year, with some flood prone areas sinking at a rate of 12% more. That affects the quality of our roads and sidewalks, constantly battling a ground that is cracking and compressing. I aim to pull together experts in urban planning, environmental engineering, and public entities to ensure long-term projects address this growing challenge. Infrastructure development is a priority.
  • Our LGBTQ+ community is left uniquely vulnerable under a state legislature that is rolling back protections. A recent directive to take down symbols from roadways deemed “political ideology” has left the community feeling exposed, a feeling I share as a queer resident in Montrose. One response the city could take is to designate Montrose a historic district, granting a legal maneuver to protect symbols such as our rainbow crosswalk when it is targeted.
I’m passionate about childcare access, improving our workforce participation by working hard to create good jobs with city standards, and education. With this ongoing state encroachment in our public schools, I’m looking to ensure we are resourcing our schools, making them safe places by ensuring their parks are maintained and programs have capacity to reach at-risk youth, and providing material improvements in the city that alleviate low-income families.
