Biography
Kevin Jackson earned an associate degree in political science from Austin Community College in 2004, a bachelor's degree in government from the University of Texas at Austin in 2009, a master's degree in public administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2019, and a master's degree in special education and educational diagnostics from the University of North Texas in 2023.[1] Jackson's career experience includes working as an educational diagnostician and teacher. He has been affiliated with the following organizations:

- Travis County Democratic Party
- Texas State Teachers' Association[2]

Kevin’s Priorities for the State Board of Education
1. High-Quality, Accurate Curriculum Standards
Kevin will champion clear, rigorous curriculum standards—known in Texas as the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)—written by educators and subject-matter experts, not political appointees. He’ll fight for honest history, strong literacy and science expectations, and a curriculum that reflects the full diversity of Texas students.
2. Instructional Materials That Put Learning First
Kevin will push to replace politicized or ideologically driven materials—including fixing the serious flaws in the newly adopted, Bible-infused Bluebonnet curriculum—with resources that support authentic reading, critical thinking, and developmentally appropriate learning.
3. Strong, Responsible Charter School Oversight
Texas already has 188 charter operators running nearly 1,000 campuses. Since each charter is a license to open multiple schools, Kevin believes new approvals must be rare and held to the highest standards—strong academics, transparent finances, ethical governance, and a clear benefit to local public schools.
4. Honest, Inclusive Ethnic Studies and Social Studies
Kevin will defend and strengthen Ethnic Studies courses and ensure social studies standards tell accurate, comprehensive history. He will resist efforts to erase the experiences of Black, Latino, Asian, Indigenous, and immigrant communities. Every student deserves to see themselves reflected in what they learn.
5. Evidence-Based Reading and Math Instruction
Kevin will support instructional materials grounded in decades of reading and learning research—approaches that build strong comprehension, vocabulary, decoding skills, numeracy, and real-world problem-solving. Students deserve what works, not what politicians prefer.
6. Ethical Stewardship of the Permanent School Fund
The SBOE manages a multibillion-dollar endowment that supports Texas schools. Kevin will advocate for transparent, responsible investment decisions based on long-term stability—not politics or special interests—so that Texas students benefit for generations to come.
