Recall reports

An effort to recall Chase County District 1 Commissioner Duane Dinnel in Nebraska was initiated in 2023. Recall supporters submitted to the initial recall petition to the county clerk on April 7. In order to get the recall on the ballot, supporters would have needed to collect 187 signatures from registered voters in District 1 within 30 days.[1] Dinnel submitted his resignation to the Chase County Clerk on May 31, 2023.[2]

Recall supporters

Supporters of the recall said their concerns stemmed from a lack of communication regarding impassable roads in the northeastern part of the county.[1]

Recall opponents

Dinnel argued that the recall effort was motivated by the commissioner not responding to the petitioner's phone calls, not an egregious action worthy of recall.[1]

Recall supporters would have had to collect a number of signatures of registered voters in Commissioner District 1 equal to 35 percent of the total number of votes cast in the last general election for that office, or 187 signatures. If the signatures had been collected by the deadline, the county clerk would have had 15 days to verify the signatures. If the signatures had been verified, a recall election would have been scheduled.[1]
