Andy Petersen was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 11 of the Oregon House of Representatives.

Campaign themes

2014

Petersen's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Economy

  • Excerpt: "Government can’t create jobs, but it sure can get in the way of innovative people who do create jobs. We need to change the way our State looks at employers and employees. Instead of sniffing around looking for new avenues of raising revenue, each law or regulation should pass the "Is it good for Oregon?" test."

Education

  • Excerpt: "While passed with good intentions, I believe the Common Core State Standards Initiative is misguided. Not only does it thwart teacher and parent innovation, it stifles creativity, customization and accountability."
  • Excerpt: "Our current trends are not healthy. We should empower parents and teachers through curriculum choice to assure each and every student receives the education they need to succeed in life."

Food Insecurity

  • Excerpt: "Too often we see our leaders playing partisan games instead of taking the path that may conflict with special interest groups yet is really the commonsense way forward for all of us. I am committed to searching for practical solutions that would alleviate the suffering so many of us see in our own neighborhoods."

Natural Resources

  • Excerpt: "We need to protect our beautiful natural resources, but we need to make certain that the end justifies the means and, ultimately, is good for Oregon."
