The city of Laredo, Texas, held a nonpartisan special election for city council on March 7, 2015. A runoff election took place on April 25, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was January 5, 2015. The city held the special election to fill the District 7 seat of former council member Jorge Vera, who was recalled from office on November 4, 2014, following his arrest for drug possession on August 1, 2014. In the general election, candidates included Juan Chavez, Hector Lee Patiño, Arturo Pantoja, Daniel "Danny" Reyes, Guillermo (Memo) Castro and George J. Altgelt. Because no candidate received a majority in the general election, the top two candidates - Patiño and Altgelt - faced each other in a runoff election on April 25, 2015. Altgelt defeated Patiño in the runoff.[1][2]
