Candidate Connection

Genevieve Steidtmann participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on August 26, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Genevieve Steidtmann's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Healthcare (expand Medicaid)

Education
Good jobs with fair wages (no "Right to Work," raise the minimum wage)[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Healthcare for all, regardless of employment. Healthcare if fundamental. If you have to worry about that, it destabilizes everything else in someone's life.

I'm also passionate about civil rights, specifically on two fronts. First, the intolerance and discrimination in our entire justice system from police to the courts system to the failed "war on drugs" to the mass incarceration of minorities to the inhumanity of the paid prison system. Second, LGBTQIA rights. I have fought for LGBTQIA rights for decades. There are constant assaults on marriage equality, and there are so many other rights needed, including making sure the LGBTQIA people can't be fired for their actual or perceived sexual orientation.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Genevieve Steidtmann answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

My dad, my mom. Barack Obama.[3]
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at that time?
The two that come to mind are the hostages in Iran and when they are released. Second was when the Challenger exploded in 1986.[3]
