My concern and dedication to this District is deeply rooted. My grandparents came here from Mexico and settled in Amarillo's Barrio neighborhood. They believed in the American Dream and wanted to build a better future for their family. They firmly believed in a good education as the pathway to success. They worked hard and saved to provide their children and grandchildren with those opportunities.

I was born into that working-class family in Amarillo. I attended public schools and then Amarillo College. Then while earning a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Management degree at West Texas A&M University, I was active in student government and other leadership organizations. In my last semester I was awarded the prestigious DC Internship Scholarship at WTAMU that allowed me to be a student intern for Representative Mac Thornberry at the Capitol in Washington, DC. I am now seeking Rep. Thornberry's office upon his retirement at the end of his current term.

While working in Washington I learned the intricacy of the political process firsthand. Rep. Thornberry and his staff taught me about bipartisanship and the benefits of cooperation and compromise. Most importantly, I learned how to listen. Those are necessary skills to be an effective Representative. My overriding goal is to be a solid, dependable and responsible voice for the people of this District.
  • A Native of the District Who Will Listen: I am running for this office because as a lifelong resident of District 13, I'm the candidate with the most knowledge and understanding of its constituents. We face unique challenges in the 13th District. I understand the challenges our residents face, because I've lived them. I know the values they share because I grew up with those same morals and principles. We share the same dreams for growth and prosperity. I am the only candidate who is qualified to represent the distinctive voice of the 13th District.
  • Economic Recovery: Economic Recovery and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that has taken thousands of lives are closely related. The stock market may be doing well, but most working-class families don't have extra funds to invest in the stock market. They are too busy trying to pay rent or mortgages, finding ways to keep their families fed and worrying about whether or not their kids can return to school safely. Unemployment and underemployment numbers are high. Small businesses, gig workers and independent contractors are being hit especially hard. Helping them is a key factor in restoring our local and national economies.
  • Patriotism Isn't Empty Words: Patriotism is defined as "vigorous support for one's country" To me genuine patriotism isn't just saying the words of the Pledge of Allegiance, fervently standing to sing the Star Spangled Banner, or passionately hugging the flag that symbolizes the freedoms we all hold so dear. Genuine patriotism is demonstrated through active support in the military, in public service, as first responders, as responsible taxpayers, and focusing on the things that identify us all as Americans, rather than the myriad differences among us. In times of difficulty, we always pull together and come out stronger than ever.
Health Care is at the top of my priority list. The Affordable Health Care Act is not perfect, but it is a step in the right direction. Every American deserves access to quality care that won't send them into bankruptcy or poverty. Our children and our seniors must have the preventive care and medications they need. And the COVID-19 Pandemic has underscored our nation's need to shift from employment-based health care plans, to a system that won't leave any individual vulnerable when they are out of work.

Genuine immigration reform is also high on my agenda. I support secure borders that will keep our nation safe. An expensive, largely ineffective wall that doesn't even fully cover 1/4 of our nation's perimeter is not the best solution. Let's invest in drones and other advanced technology to monitor our southern border. Let's invest more in our Border Patrol and port security on both coasts. Let's find a path to citizenship for Dreamers who were brought here as children and who have grown up calling the United States home. Immigrants aren't going to "take jobs" from highly skilled workers or professionals. Throughout history, immigrants most often do the hard labor, the necessary and less-desirable work that the middle-class and upwardly mobile individuals find distasteful. Let's work toward common solutions that strengthen our nation and create new loyal Americans, instead of separating families and inhumanely caging them.
