Ricky Donovan, Sr. (Republican Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent New York's 26th Congressional District. He lost in the general election on November 3, 2020. He was disqualified from the Independence Party primary scheduled on June 23, 2020.

Donovan is a former 2014 Republican candidate for District 63 of the New York State Senate. He ran unsuccessfully as a 2012 Republican candidate for District 141 of the New York State Assembly.

Elections for the New York State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on September 9, 2014. The general election took place November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was July 10, 2014. Incumbent Tim Kennedy defeated Betty Jean Grant in the Democratic primary, while Ricky Donovan, Sr. was unopposed in the Republican primary. Dennis Nawojski was removed from the ballot before the Democratic primary. Kennedy also ran on the Working Families Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets. Donovan also ran on the Conservative Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets. Kennedy defeated Donovan in the general election.[1][2][3]

Donovan ran in the 2012 election for New York State Assembly District 141. Donovan ran unopposed in the Republican primary on September 13, 2012. He also ran on the Independence Party of New York State ticket. He was defeated by incumbent Crystal D. Peoples in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5][6]
