Goodwin ran in the 2012 election for Massachusetts State Senate District Third Middlesex District. He ran against Alexander Buck, Mara Dolan, Mike Barret, and Joseph Mullin in the Democratic primary on September 6. Incumbent Susan Fargo (D) did not run for re-election.[1][2][3]

Campaign themes
2012
Goodwin opposes balancing the budget through more spending cuts. He supports a constitutional amendment for a graduated income tax, ending the tax exemption on candy and soda, and raising the cigarette and chewing tobacco tax. However, he does not support an increased gas tax.[4]
