  • Sustainable Progress for Future Generations Our environment is the legacy we leave behind, and it is our responsibility to protect it for the sake of future generations. Let's come together to take meaningful action today, ensuring a greener, more sustainable tomorrow. Join me in this mission to create a world where our children and grandchildren can thrive in harmony with nature.
I'm passionate about several key areas of public policy that impact our community's well-being and future. First, I advocate for fair taxation policies that ensure economic equality and support essential public services. Protecting individual rights and freedoms is paramount, as is preventing executive overreach to maintain a balanced government. I am dedicated to healthcare reform, ensuring everyone has access to affordable, quality care. Education is another priority, as I believe in providing equal opportunities for all students. Lastly, I am committed to environmental sustainability, promoting policies that address climate change and preserve our planet for future generations.
I deeply admire Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony for their unwavering commitment to justice and equality during times of profound oppression. Each exemplified courage, resilience, and a steadfast dedication to human rights and dignity.

As the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln demonstrated extraordinary leadership during the Civil War. His dedication to preserving the Union and ending slavery through the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment highlights his commitment to equality under the law. Lincoln's ability to navigate a divided nation and his vision for a united country where freedom and equality prevail are truly inspiring.
Harriet Tubman risked her life to lead enslaved people to freedom via the Underground Railroad. Her bravery and selflessness in the face of immense danger exemplify her profound commitment to justice and humanity. Tubman's legacy as a freedom fighter continues to inspire generations to combat injustice and inequality.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony were pioneering leaders in the women's suffrage movement, tirelessly advocating for women's rights and equality. Their efforts to challenge societal norms and push for legal reforms laid the groundwork for the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote. Their courage to stand against a patriarchal system and relentless pursuit of equality demonstrate the power of advocacy and activism in driving social change.

These individuals not only held governments accountable for failing to uphold equality but also took bold actions to address injustices directly. Their legacies remind us of the importance of standing up for marginalized communities and ensuring every voice is heard and valued. In a world where inequality persists, their examples inspire me to work towards a more just and equitable society for all.
In my view, an elected official must embody a set of core characteristics and principles that ensure effective and compassionate leadership. These include:

1. Integrity and Accountability: An elected official must uphold the highest ethical standards, demonstrating honesty and transparency in all actions and decisions. Accountability to the people and a commitment to serving the public interest are paramount.

2. Empathy and Compassion: Understanding and relating to the diverse experiences and challenges of the people is essential. An official must approach every issue with empathy, prioritizing the well-being of individuals and communities.

3. Commitment to Justice and Equality: A dedication to social justice and equality is crucial. This involves advocating for policies that protect individual rights, promote diversity and inclusion, and address historical injustices.

4. Visionary Leadership: An effective leader must have a clear and forward-thinking vision for the future, focusing on sustainable growth, innovation, and long-term solutions to pressing issues.

5. Collaboration and Inclusivity: Building coalitions and working across party lines to achieve common goals is vital. Inclusivity in decision-making ensures that all voices are heard and considered.

6. Adaptability and Resilience: The ability to navigate complex challenges and adapt to changing circumstances is essential for effective governance. Resilience in the face of adversity allows an official to remain steadfast in their mission.

7. Transparency and Open Communication: Maintaining open lines of communication with the people fosters trust and engagement. Transparency in government operations ensures that the public is informed and involved in the democratic process.

As an elected official, I would be committed to embodying these principles, ensuring that my actions reflect the values and needs of the people I serve. Together, we can build a more just, equitable, and prosperous future for all.
As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, an elected official has several core responsibilities, including:

1. Legislating: Crafting, debating, and voting on laws that address national issues and policies. This includes proposing bills and amendments, as well as participating in committee work to refine legislation.

2. Representing the People: Acting as a voice for the people in their district, understanding their needs and concerns, and advocating for their interests in Congress. This involves staying connected with the people through meetings, town halls, and other forms of communication.

3. Oversight and Accountability: Monitoring and overseeing the implementation of federal laws and the activities of the executive branch. This includes participating in investigations and hearings to ensure government accountability and transparency.

4. Budgeting and Appropriations: Participating in the federal budget process by reviewing, amending, and approving funding for government programs and initiatives. This involves making decisions on how taxpayer dollars are allocated and spent.

5. Constituent Services: Assisting individuals and organizations in their district with navigating federal agencies and accessing government services. This includes addressing concerns related to social security, veterans' benefits, immigration, and more.

6. Policy Advocacy: Championing specific policy areas or issues that are important to their district or the nation as a whole. This involves building coalitions and working with colleagues to advance legislative priorities.

7. Public Engagement and Education: Educating the people about legislative processes, government functions, and policy issues. This includes providing updates on congressional activities and encouraging civic participation.

By fulfilling these responsibilities, a U.S. Representative plays a crucial role in shaping national policy and ensuring that the government serves the needs of its citizens.
My legacy will be one of unity, justice, and equality, inspired by the unwavering dedication of historical figures like Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony. I aspire to bring people together across divides, fostering a community where every voice is heard and valued. My commitment is to create a society where justice prevails, and every individual, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to thrive.

As a social worker, mother, and advocate, I aim to empower those who have been marginalized, ensuring that their rights are protected and their needs are met. My life's work will focus on dismantling barriers to equality, advocating for policies that promote inclusivity, and holding systems accountable to the principles of justice and fairness.

Through collaboration and compassionate leadership, I strive to build a future where our differences are celebrated as strengths, and where the ideals of freedom and equality are not just aspirations but realities for all. My legacy will be one of hope, resilience, and unwavering dedication to creating an equal and just country for every person.
The first historical event I remember was in January of 1986 when the space shuttle Challenger exploded. I was at school watching it on the TV they wheeled into the classroom. We had been excited to watch the first teacher to go into space. And then we were all horrified and crying when we watched it explode.
My first job was a hostess at a buffet restaurant in West Sacramento, California. I worked there for a little over a summer. They were unable to accommodate my school schedule.
Growing up, my family faced significant financial hardships, which were a constant struggle in my life. Unlike some of my friends, there were times when my parents couldn't afford to feed us, yet we fell through the cracks of eligibility for aid. My father often resorted to hunting to provide meat for our table. Compounding these challenges was the prevalence of addiction within my family, which led to frequent fighting and a dysfunctional environment.

Despite these difficulties, I always held onto the belief that a better way of life was possible. I recognized the patterns I was repeating from my parents but was determined to break free from them. This realization led me to make the difficult decision to divorce my first husband and pursue education as a single mother of two young children. It was a daunting path, but I was committed to creating a better life for myself and my children, demonstrating to them that with hard work and determination, it is possible to change one's circumstances and rewrite one's story.

Choosing to study social work was a pivotal decision in my journey. I wanted to use my experiences to help other families who were struggling with similar issues. By becoming a social worker, I aimed to provide support and advocacy for those in need, offering them the guidance and resources to overcome their challenges. My journey has been one of resilience and transformation, and I am driven by the desire to inspire others to believe in their potential to create a brighter future.
The U.S. House of Representatives possesses several unique qualities that distinguish it as an institution. Firstly, it is the only body in the federal government directly elected by the people every two years, making it highly responsive to public opinion. This frequent election cycle ensures that Representatives remain closely connected to their constituents' needs and priorities.

Secondly, the House has the exclusive power to initiate revenue bills, reflecting its foundational role in managing the nation's finances. This responsibility underscores its significance in shaping fiscal policy and economic direction.

Additionally, the House has the unique authority to impeach federal officials, including the President, which serves as a critical check on executive power.

The House's large membership, with 435 voting members, allows for a wide range of perspectives and a more diverse representation of the American populace. This diversity fosters robust debate and comprehensive consideration of legislation.

Finally, the House's procedural rules, such as the use of standing committees and the Committee of the Whole, facilitate detailed examination and efficient processing of legislation, ensuring that a broad array of issues is addressed in a timely manner. These qualities collectively make the House a vital and dynamic component of the U.S. legislative process.
Having previous experience in government or politics can be beneficial for representatives, as it provides them with a deeper understanding of the legislative process, policy-making, and the complexities of governance. Such experience can help them navigate the political landscape more effectively, build valuable relationships, and advocate for their constituents more efficiently.

However, it's also important to recognize the value of diverse backgrounds and perspectives in government. Representatives with experiences outside of politics, such as in business, education, healthcare, or social work, can bring fresh insights and innovative solutions to the table. These varied experiences can enhance the legislative process by incorporating different viewpoints and addressing a broader range of issues.

Ultimately, whether or not previous political experience is beneficial depends on the individual's ability to leverage their unique skills and experiences to serve their constituents effectively and contribute to the common good. A balance of experienced politicians and newcomers with diverse backgrounds can create a dynamic and responsive legislative body.
The United States faces several significant challenges over the next decade that require urgent attention and action. Key areas of concern include:

1. Economic Inequality: The growing gap between the wealthy and the rest of the population necessitates addressing wage stagnation, affordable housing, and access to quality education and healthcare.

2. Healthcare Access and Costs: Ensuring affordable and comprehensive healthcare for all Americans is critical, involving the management of rising costs and improving system efficiency.

3. Climate Change and Sustainability: The risks posed by climate change, such as extreme weather and rising sea levels, demand a transition to renewable energy and sustainable practices.

4. Political Polarization: Bridging political and social divides is essential for a cohesive democracy, requiring dialogue and understanding across diverse perspectives.

5. Technological Advancements: Rapid technological changes present opportunities and challenges, including cybersecurity threats, privacy concerns, and workforce adaptation to automation and AI.

6. Global Leadership: Maintaining a strong global presence involves addressing international conflicts, trade relations, and promoting human rights and democratic values.

7. Social Justice and Equality: Efforts to address systemic racism and promote equality are vital, involving criminal justice reform and ensuring equal opportunities for all.

8. Public Health Preparedness: Strengthening public health infrastructure and pandemic preparedness is crucial to protect public health and prevent disruptions.

Addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts, innovative solutions, and a commitment to equity and justice to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for all Americans.
The two-year term length for U.S. Representatives has its advantages and challenges. On the positive side, it ensures that representatives remain closely connected to their constituents, as frequent elections require them to stay attuned to public opinion and community needs. This responsiveness can lead to a government that is more reflective of the people's current priorities and concerns.

However, the short term length can also present challenges. Representatives may spend a significant amount of time campaigning, which can detract from their ability to focus on long-term policy initiatives and governance. The need for frequent re-election can also lead to a focus on short-term gains rather than sustainable, long-term solutions.

Ultimately, whether two years is the right term length depends on balancing the need for accountability and responsiveness with the desire for stability and long-term planning. Some advocate for longer terms to allow representatives more time to work on substantial policy issues, while others value the frequent opportunity for voters to express their preferences and hold their representatives accountable.
I align with a perspective that advocates for a dynamic and responsive legislative body. Here are some thoughts on why term limits can be beneficial:

1. Fresh Perspectives: Term limits encourage the rotation of representatives, bringing in new ideas and perspectives that can lead to innovative solutions and policies. This can help prevent stagnation and promote adaptability in addressing emerging challenges.

2. Reduced Incumbency Advantage: Term limits can level the playing field by reducing the advantages that long-term incumbents might have, such as name recognition and established networks, thereby encouraging more competitive elections.

3. Accountability and Responsiveness: With a limited time in office, legislators may be more motivated to focus on the needs and priorities of the people rather than long-term political career ambitions. This can enhance accountability and responsiveness to the public.

4. Limiting Power Concentration: Term limits can prevent the accumulation of power by a few individuals, promoting a more balanced distribution of influence within the legislative body.

5. Encouraging Civic Engagement: By regularly introducing new candidates, term limits can increase public interest and participation in the political process, fostering a more engaged and informed electorate.

While term limits have their advantages, it is also important to consider potential challenges, such as the loss of experienced legislators and the need for continuous learning for new members. However, with thoughtful implementation, term limits can contribute to a more dynamic and effective legislative system.
I choose to model myself after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) as a representative due to several key aspects of her approach and values:

1. Progressive Vision: AOC is known for her progressive platform, advocating for policies like the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and economic justice. Her commitment to addressing climate change, healthcare accessibility, and income inequality aligns with a vision for transformative change.

2. Grassroots Engagement: AOC's election campaign was notable for its grassroots approach, emphasizing direct engagement with constituents and mobilizing community support. Her ability to connect with and energize a diverse voter base can be a valuable model for building strong community relationships.

3. Authenticity and Relatability: AOC is recognized for her authenticity and relatability, often using social media to communicate directly with the public. Her transparent communication style and willingness to share her personal story resonate with many, making her an accessible and relatable figure.

4. Advocacy for Marginalized Communities: AOC consistently advocates for marginalized and underrepresented communities, focusing on issues like racial justice, immigrant rights, and economic equity. Her dedication to amplifying the voices of those often left out of political discourse can inspire a commitment to inclusive representation.

5. Resilience and Determination: AOC's journey from working-class roots to becoming a prominent political figure demonstrates resilience and determination. Her ability to overcome obstacles and challenge the status quo can serve as a motivating example for pursuing ambitious goals.

By modeling myself after AOC, I may aim to embody these qualities and approaches, striving to create a positive impact through progressive policies, community engagement, and authentic representation.
Compromise is often necessary in policymaking. Here are some reasons why:

1. Diverse Perspectives: In a democratic society, multiple viewpoints and interests need to be considered. Compromise allows for a more inclusive approach that takes into account the needs and concerns of different groups.

2. Achieving Consensus: Policymaking often involves reaching agreements among various stakeholders, including legislators, interest groups, and the public. Compromise helps build consensus, making it possible to pass legislation that might otherwise face opposition.

3. Balancing Interests: Compromise helps balance competing interests, ensuring that no single group dominates the policy agenda. This balance is crucial for creating fair and equitable policies.

4. Promoting Stability: Policies that result from compromise are often more stable and sustainable because they reflect a broader agreement and are less likely to be overturned by future administrations or legislative changes.

5. Encouraging Collaboration: Compromise fosters a collaborative environment where policymakers work together to find solutions. This collaboration can lead to more innovative and effective policies.

6. Reflecting Democratic Values: Compromise is a fundamental aspect of democratic governance, where negotiation and dialogue are key to resolving differences and making progress.

While compromise is essential, it's also important to ensure that it doesn't dilute core values or lead to ineffective solutions. Striking the right balance between compromise and principle is a critical skill for effective policymaking.
If elected, the constitutional power of the House to originate all bills for raising revenue would play a significant role in advancing my priorities, especially those related to economic and social policies. Here's how this power aligns with my objectives:

1. Healthcare Access: By initiating revenue-related bills, I could propose funding mechanisms to support universal healthcare initiatives, ensuring that adequate resources are allocated to expand access and improve healthcare services for all people.

2. Economic Equity: This power allows me to address economic inequality by proposing tax reforms that ensure a fairer distribution of wealth. I could advocate for progressive taxation policies that alleviate the burden on lower-income individuals while ensuring that the wealthy contribute equitably to public finances.

3. Sustainable Development: With the authority to propose revenue bills, I could champion initiatives that fund renewable energy projects and environmental sustainability efforts. This can include proposing taxes or incentives that promote green technology and reduce carbon emissions.

4. Education and Workforce Development: By focusing on revenue generation, I could support funding for education and workforce training programs, ensuring that the people have access to quality education and opportunities for skill development.

5. Social Justice and Community Investment: This power enables me to propose funding for programs that address social justice issues, such as affordable housing, criminal justice reform, and community development projects, ensuring that resources are directed towards creating equitable opportunities for all.

Overall, the ability to originate revenue bills positions me to directly influence the allocation of resources towards my key priorities, enabling me to advocate for policies that promote economic justice, social equity, and sustainable growth.
The U.S. House should use its investigative powers responsibly and effectively to ensure accountability, transparency, and integrity within the government. Here's how these powers can be utilized:

1. Oversight of the Executive Branch: The House can investigate the actions and decisions of the executive branch to ensure they align with the law and public interest. This oversight helps prevent abuses of power and promotes accountability.

2. Policy Evaluation: Investigative powers can be used to assess the effectiveness of existing policies and programs. By examining their impact, the House can make informed decisions on necessary reforms or improvements.

3. Addressing Public Concerns: The House can investigate issues of significant public concern, such as environmental disasters, economic crises, or public health emergencies. These investigations can lead to policy changes that better protect and serve the public.

4. Ensuring Ethical Conduct: Investigations can be conducted to address allegations of misconduct, corruption, or unethical behavior by public officials. This helps maintain trust in government institutions and promotes ethical standards.

5. Legislative Support: Investigative findings can inform the legislative process by providing evidence and insights that shape new laws or amendments. This ensures that legislation is based on accurate and comprehensive information.

6. Protecting Democratic Processes: The House can investigate threats to democratic processes, such as election interference or voter suppression, to safeguard the integrity of elections and uphold democratic principles.

By using its investigative powers judiciously, the U.S. House can play a crucial role in upholding the rule of law, protecting citizens' rights, and ensuring that government actions serve the best interests of the public.
One of the accomplishments I am most proud of is my educational journey from a high school graduate to earning a master's degree in social work, all while being a single mother. This path was not easy, but it was driven by my determination to create a better life for myself and my children. Balancing the demands of parenting with rigorous academic commitments, I demonstrated resilience and perseverance, proving to myself and my children that through hard work and dedication, one can overcome significant challenges and achieve their goals.

In 2021, I took a bold step forward by opening my own business, a venture that began with just three providers. The company was founded with a clear mission: to provide new clinicians fresh out of school with valuable supervision toward their licensure while ensuring they earned a wage that surpassed what other companies offered. This initiative was designed to support emerging professionals in their growth and development, fostering a nurturing environment where they could thrive.
Within a year, through strategic planning and a commitment to quality care, I successfully expanded the practice to include 12 providers. This rapid growth was a testament to my leadership, vision, and ability to build a supportive and collaborative environment for both clients and clinicians.
However, the journey was not without its challenges. The business faced significant hurdles, including a major setback during the change healthcare breach, which threatened its very survival. Despite these difficulties, I remained steadfast, navigating through the crisis with determination and resilience. This experience taught me invaluable lessons in crisis management and the importance of adaptability and perseverance in the face of adversity.

These accomplishments are not just milestones in my career but are also reflections of my unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others. They serve as a reminder that with determination, resilience, and a clear vision, it is possible to overcome obstacles and achieve success, inspiring others to do the same.
The United States government should play a proactive role in the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) to maximize benefits while minimizing risks. Key areas include:

1. Regulation and Oversight: Establish clear regulations to ensure responsible AI development and use, focusing on data privacy, security, and ethics.

2. Research and Innovation: Support AI research through funding and collaboration with academia and industry to maintain leadership and drive societal benefits.

3. Public Safety and Security: Ensure AI enhances safety and security, addressing cybersecurity risks and military applications.

4. Education and Workforce Development: Invest in education and training to prepare the workforce for AI-driven changes, equipping individuals with necessary skills.

5. Ethical Standards: Promote ethical standards for AI, ensuring transparency, fairness, and respect for human rights.

6. Public Engagement: Foster transparency and dialogue among stakeholders, including industry, academia, and civil society, to build trust and understanding.

By adopting a comprehensive approach, the government can harness AI's potential for economic growth, improved quality of life, and addressing societal challenges, aligning technology development with public values and interests.
If elected, enacting legislation related to election administration in the United States could focus on several key areas to ensure fair, secure, and accessible elections:

1. Voting Accessibility: Implement measures to ensure that all eligible voters have easy access to voting, including expanding early voting, mail-in voting, and ensuring polling places are accessible to individuals with disabilities.

2. Election Security: Strengthen the security of election infrastructure by investing in updated technology, cybersecurity measures, and ensuring paper ballot backups to prevent tampering and ensure the integrity of election results.

3. Voter Registration: Simplify and streamline the voter registration process by implementing automatic voter registration, same-day registration, and online registration options to increase participation and reduce barriers.

4. Redistricting Reform: Establish independent commissions to oversee redistricting processes to prevent gerrymandering and ensure fair representation by drawing district lines based on non-partisan criteria.

5. Campaign Finance Transparency: Enact laws to increase transparency in campaign financing by requiring full disclosure of all political contributions and expenditures, and limiting the influence of dark money in elections.

6. Voter Education and Outreach: Fund programs to educate voters about the electoral process, their rights, and how to participate effectively, ensuring that all citizens are informed and empowered to vote.

7. Protection Against Discrimination: Strengthen protections against voter discrimination and suppression, ensuring that all citizens, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status, have equal access to the ballot box.

By focusing on these areas, the legislation would aim to enhance the integrity, fairness, and accessibility of elections, thereby strengthening democracy and ensuring that every citizen's voice is heard and counted.
