Three of the seven seats on the Bastrop Independent School District school board were up for general election on May 7, 2016. Place 5 incumbent Glenn Peterson Sr., Place 6 incumbent Matthew Mix and Place 7 incumbent Ashley Mutschink were the only candidates to file for the three seats up for election. This election was canceled by the school district due to lack of opposition.[1]

The Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees is composed of seven members who are elected at large to three-year terms in specifically numbered seats. Candidates file to run for a specific seat, but all voters in the school district are eligible to vote for every seat up for election. Places 5, 6, and 7 were scheduled for general election on May 7, 2016, but the election was canceled due to only one candidate filing for each race. There was no primary election.[1]

Candidates running for the school board had to be a United States citizen, a resident of Texas for at least 12 months, and a resident of the district for at least six months. Candidates also had to be 18 years of age or older and registered to vote.[1]
