Benjamin Hunter is a former Republican member of the Indianapolis City Council in Indiana, previously representing District 21. He was elected to the council in 2007.[1]

Hunter was a 2015 Republican candidate for District 19 of the Indianapolis City Council in Indiana. Benjamin Hunter (Indiana) lost the general election on November 3, 2015.

Hunter received a bachelor's degree in political science from Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis. After working for the Indiana University Police Department, Hunter worked for the Indianapolis Police Department from 1998 to 2008. He then became the director of public safety at Butler University. Other experience includes serving on the Peace Learning Center's board of directors and on the advisory boards to the Indiana Partnership to Prevent Violent Injury and Death and the Butler University Center on Citizenship and Community.[2]

The city of Indianapolis, Indiana, held elections for mayor and city council on November 3, 2015. A partisan primary election took place on May 5, 2015. The filing deadline for major party candidates who wished to run in this election was February 6, 2015. The filing deadline for independent or minor party candidates was July 15, 2015.[5] Twenty-five city council seats were up for election. Indianapolis's four at-large seats were not up for election, because those seats were scheduled to expire at the end of 2015.[6]

In the Republican primary election for District 19, Benjamin Hunter ran unopposed. In the Democratic primary, David Michael Ray also ran unopposed. Ray defeated Hunter in the general election.[7] Incumbent Jeff Miller (R) ran for election to the District 16 seat.[8]
