Authority

The Wisconsin Ethics Commission oversees campaign finance reporting processes. In addition, the commission is authorized to levy civil penalties against those who violate Wisconsin's campaign finance laws. Alleged criminal violations are prosecuted by district attorneys.[1][2]

Organization

Created in 2015 by Wisconsin Act 118, the Wisconsin Ethics Commission comprises six members who serve five-year terms. According to the commission, "One member is appointed by the senate majority leader; one appointed by the senate minority leader; one appointed by the speaker of the assembly; one appointed by the assembly minority leader; and two are individuals who formerly served as judges for a court of record in this state, who were elected to the positions in which they served, and who are nominated by the governor with the advice and consent of a majority of the members of the senate confirmed."[3]
