An effort to recall Chad Campbell, a member of the Democratic Party, from his elected position representing District 24 in the Arizona House of Representatives was launched on March 13, 2013. The effort to qualify the recall question for the ballot was, however, abandoned short of going to a vote.[1][2]

Background
Conservative group Fire Representative Chad Campbell targeted Campbell for recall, with one of their supporters citing gun control as a reason for this campaign. "The Second Amendment issues that he has promoted at the state capital are ridiculous and we won't stand for it anymore," said Bob Thomas, a former candidate for the Arizona State Senate.[3] Campbell, however, said he believed there was more to the recall movement. "The group behind this is a very radical right group of Tea Party extremists -- very large dollar special interests ... I think they're going after me for promoting the things that we've been trying to do, which again..better schools, creating jobs, fighting for medicaid..all of those things."[1]

Supporters of the recall needed to collect 23,000 signatures by July 10 in order to force a recall election, however the group did not turn in signatures by that deadline. Thomas said that although his group obtained enough signatures, it was not cleared by the Arizona Secretary of State's office to submit them.[4][2]
