An effort in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to recall City Council Members Sumi Kailasapathy, Kirk Westphal, Julie Grand, Graydon Krapohl and Chuck Warpehoski from their positions was launched in December 2015. A recall petition against Westphal was filed in the first week of December, while petitions against the remaining members were planned by organizers.[1] The recall did not go to a vote after the Washtenaw County Election Commission rejected proposed language for Westphal's seat by a 2-1 vote on December 17, 2015.[2]
Recall supporters
A group called Save the Deer Ann Arbor started a recall drive against five council members over their support for culling the local deer population. The council voted 10-1 to hire marksmen to kill 100 deer in public parks as part of a population control effort. Save the Deer Ann Arbor argued that the cull was inhumane and lacked justification.[1]

Save the Deer Ann Arbor submitted recall language against Westphal to the Washtenaw County Election Commission, which had to approve language prior to signature collection. If approved, the group would have needed at least 1,791 signatures from registered voters in Westphal's district to force a recall election in May 2016.[1]
