An effort to recall City Councilors Rick Cox, Rob Molnar, and Art McNabb did not go to a vote in Gibraltar, Michigan, after signatures were not submitted by the deadline to do so. The Wayne County Election Commission had approved the language of the petition during a clarity/factual hearing on December 4, 2024.[1][2]

Former Gibraltar City Councilor Cody Dill organized the recall effort. The recall effort was initiated after Cox, Molnar, and McNabb voted to terminate Police Chief Rick Tanguay effective October 31, 2024.[1]

No specific grounds are required for recall in Michigan. To get a recall on the ballot in Michigan, recall supporters must collect signatures equal in number to 25% of voters in the jurisdiction in the last gubernatorial election. They have 60 days between the collection of the first signature and the collection of the last signature on the petition. Recall petitions are eligible to collect signatures for 180 days.[3][4][5]
