Recall reports

An effort to recall Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) was launched on January 2, 2024. The Michigan Board of State Canvassers met on January 19, 2024, to hold a clarity and factual hearing on the recall's petition language. The board rejected the recall petition for circulation because the reasons for the recall were not factual and lacked sufficient clarity.

Nessel was elected as Michigan's attorney general in 2018 with 49% of the vote. She was re-elected in 2022 with 53.2% of the vote.

Recall supporters

Chad E. Baase filed the recall petition against Nessel on January 2, 2024. The recall petition listed the following reasons for recall:

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has failed to protect the citizens of Michigan by allowing vague and discriminatory statutes that have similarities to Slave Licenses, Black Code and Jim Crow Laws but disproportionately affect People with Disabilities, Low Income Individuals/Communities, and areas with poor public transportation options. The Attorney General has neglected to enforce the Separation of Powers Clause as the Executive Branch has multiple offices that preform[sic] Executive Branch, Legislative and Judicial Functions acting as prosecutor and adjudicator.[1]

Recall opponents

As of January 2024, Ballotpedia did not identify a response to the recall petition from Dana Nessel.
