Candidate Connection

Daniel Gillette participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on January 17, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Daniel Gillette's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Keeping local neighborhoods safe and healthy all around Louisville.

2) To help local businesses, big and small, stay here in Louisville and safe from unfair competition.
3) Letting citizens have a voice in local government issues.[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I'm personal passionate about Income and Wealth Inequality. For far to long here in Louisville and within our great country, the gap between the rich and the poor is wider than anytime since the 1920s. The average wage for middle class workers is going down, while millions enter the ranks of poverty, this is immoral and has got to change.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Daniel Gillette answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

The most important principles for an elected official, I believe, is to go out and listen to voters. They are the most important part of society and their voice matters. They know first-hand what's important to them and their community.[3]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
Some qualities that would make me a successful officeholder would be that I believe in a government that values other's opinions, to make issues of policy a non-partisan agreement. And to work together with people of opposite views to reach a compromise of what ever sort.[3]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
The core responsibilities if I am elected to office is to hold people accountable, deliver excellent city services, ensure economic integrity, creating new jobs and opportunities, investing in our people and neighborhoods, and to create plans for the future of our city and for the new generations to come.[3]
What legacy would you like to leave?
The legacy I would like to leave for future generations is that in order to change our country people are going to have to stand up, fight back, and create a government which represents all of its people.[3]
Mayors have many responsibilities, which vary from city to city. Which of those do you personally consider the most important in your city?
The of the most important responsibilities for mayor is to oversee a city's main departments, including the police, fire, education, housing and transportation departments.[3]
