I am a mother of 4 boys, wife, teacher, and current school board director. I have lived in Colorado Springs for the past 22 years, and I believe in building schools and communities that support all students.
  • Support students, parents, and the community
  • Fully fund schools and teachers
  • Restore reason, credibility and transparency to the D11 school board
School funding: Colorado's per-pupil spending is significantly lower than the national average for education. Due to Colorado's budget-balancing method, which sacrificed education funding, we have lost nearly $10 billion. I'll support initiatives that aim to stabilize the budget. Boards must support lawmakers who are trying to address the problems with education funding.

Access for all students: It's critical to implement district-level regulations that permit access for all children. Each student brings a different set of tools to class. Our pupils are entering the classroom prepared for success. Additionally, there are students who join schools without the resources they need to succeed.
A school board member's primary responsibilities include considering and approving policies, hiring and collaborating with the superintendent, and upholding an accurate and true curriculum. School boards frequently lose focus and start navigating national problems that have no bearing on the daily school experience of kids and teachers. A well-functioning school board should concentrate on formulating policies and working closely with the superintendent. I'll nudge this board to concentrate on what matters most.
Good teaching occurs in environments that encourage creativity and critical thinking. I will support teaching methods that ensure teachers and educators have what they need to be successful. Rather than restrict teachers, we need to trust and empower them to do the job they have been trained to do. Teachers need support at all levels, from professional development to higher investment in resources. We need to ask teachers what they need.
The ideal learning environment for students is one in which they feel safe and ready to learn. School was my safe place, and that's how many community members see it too. Learning can only occur when a student's basic physical and emotional needs are met. The needs of students should be the most important priority for our school boards.

I have a heart to see students succeed in public education. I have a heart for service to the Colorado Springs community especially after participating in the D11 Leadership Classes, District Accountability Committee, School Accountability Committee, and substitute teaching for two years.
  • A quality public education for all kids.
  • The physical and emotional safety for all kids.
  • Parent and community involvement in public education.

Love this poem:

"This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.

I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.

I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no "brief candle" for me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations."

I do believe it is important to intentionally recruit with the aim of diversifying the district's faculty, staff, and administration. I would continue supporting the ongoing and consistent policy efforts for intentionally recruiting across the nation for District 11 in Colorado Springs.
