District 1 incumbent Ann Heuberger, District 2 incumbent Debbie Russell, District 4 incumbent Richard Rendon, and District 6 incumbent Rebecca Birch won re-election without opposition.[1]

The Del Valle Independent School District Board of Trustees consists of nine by-district members elected to four-year terms. The filing period for Texas school board candidates running in fall elections started on July 23, 2016. The final day for candidates to file their applications for ballot placement was August 22, 2016. A candidate for school board in Texas must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the school district. The application for ballot placement also states that candidates cannot have felony convictions or court judgments verifying total mental incapacity on their records.[2]
The deadline to register to vote for the November election was October 11, 2016. The early voting period started on October 24, 2016, and concluded on November 4, 2016.[3]

Del Valle Independent School District is located in Travis County, Texas. The county seat of Travis County and state capitol is Austin. Travis County was home to 1,176,558 residents in 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[6] The district was the 97th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 11,684 students.[7]
Demographics
Travis County outperformed the state of Texas in terms of higher education achievement from 2010 to 2014. The United States Census Bureau found that 45.2 percent of Travis County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 27.1 percent for Texas as a whole. The median household income in Travis County was $59,620, compared to $52,576 for the state of Texas. The poverty rate in Travis County was 16.7 percent, compared to 15.9 percent for the entire state.[6]
