Dennis P. Williams is a former Democratic member of the Delaware House of Representatives, representing District 1 from 1994 to 2013. He ran for and won election in 2012 to serve as mayor of Wilmington.[1][2]

Williams' professional experience includes working as a detective with the Wilmington City Police Department and as deputy director of Wilmington's Downtown Clean and Safe Team.

Williams is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Harian Park Civic Association, and National Organization Victims Assistance.[3]

Williams' sponsored legislation includes:

  • HB 133 - "allow innocent victims of crime to receive compensation for mental health counseling, costs of attending criminal proceedings, and expenses related to essential personal safety property"
  • HB 195 - "encourage physicians to provide medical care without compensation in an effort to provide some relief to those Delawareans who are without medical insurance"
  • HB 223 - "ensure that a child is not denied a hot breakfast or hot lunch because the child’s parent has failed to replenish the child’s account for charged meals and/or future meals"

Williams did not run for re-election to the Delaware House of Representatives in 2012. Instead, he won election as Wilmington mayor in 2012.[2][1]

Williams won re-election to the 1st District seat in 2010. He had no opposition in the primary or in the November 2, 2010, general election.[4]

2008

On November 4, 2008, Williams won re-election to the Delaware House of Representatives from Delaware's 1st District, defeating James McClain (R). Williams received 7,422 votes, while McClain received 726 votes.[5] Williams raised $27,965 for his campaign; McClain raised $620.[6]
