|Experiences that I plan to leverage as a school board member include:
Strategic Marketing Professional Committee Member, District Planning Advisory Council (DPAC) Committee Member, Enrollment and Capacity Management Advisory Committee (ECMAC) Host Parent and Team Lead, Together For Good Parent Advocate, Osseo School District first generation families Volunteer, Zanewood Elementary School/church partnership Classroom and School Volunteer, ISD 279 Elementary School Volunteer Teacher (ages 0-12), Various churches Classroom and Computer Lab Volunteer, Prisk Elementary School, Long Beach, CA
Block Leader, We Love Long Beach- Elevate Academics I want our students to have high-quality academic experiences that prepare them for their best possible futures. As a board member, I will make policy decisions through the lens of “academics first.” I believe that our large and beautifully diverse district requires district leaders to consider the broad range of student needs. For some students that may mean increased rigor, special education, or career training to name a few examples. We need to simultaneously meet students and staff where they are at in order to maximize their educational experience while also working towards improvements. With a focus on student-based academics, I believe our kids will succeed.
- Ensure Safety School safety is top of mind for most families and their kids. I know it is for mine. I believe safety is a complex issue that must stay at the forefront of our policymaking as a school board. Safety concerns are most visible in the classroom with disruptive behavior issues and bullying. Safety also becomes a concern when it comes to weapons on campus and fights. By focusing on the physical safety of our students and staff both in the school building and at the classroom level, our district will thrive.
- Empower All Families Families are at the heart of our schools. Honoring the cultures and backgrounds of the district’s families offers our students the chance to hear unique perspectives. However, for some families, it can be challenging to get their voices heard and to navigate district processes and politics. I’ve spent the last two years connecting with many of these families to elevate their experience and empower them as parents of Osseo Area Schools students. I believe that by elevating the voices of the district’s diverse groups of parents and creating an environment where students of all backgrounds can focus on learning, all students benefit.
