Brown ran in the 2012 election for Texas House of Representatives, District 65. Brown ran unopposed in the May 29 primary election and was defeated by Ron Simmons (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1]

Brown advocated for the use of rainy day funds to restore education funding, the promotion of green technology, and the protection of women's rights regarding health care. On gun rights, he "supports the 2nd Amendment and the right for Texans to defend their property and family from criminal activity."[2]
