Governor appoints six to judgeships

Colorado: Outgoing Governor Bill Ritter announced six new judicial appointments on December 27th.

Julie Kunce Field and Stephen Enderlin Howard were appointed to the Colorado 8th Judicial District, effective January 1, 2011. They were both appointed on December 22nd, but their appointments wre not officially announced until December 27th. They will replace Judges Jolene C. Blair and Terence A. Gilmore, who lost retention election in 2010. As district court judges, they will serve an initial term of two years. Field is currently a sole practitioner, the director of the Confidentiality Institute and a mediator with the Colorado Office of Dispute Resolution. Howard has worked as a private practice lawyer for 32 years.[1]

Francis Stephen Collins was appointed to the Colorado 18th Judicial District and will take office on February 1st. His initial term will be two years. He has worked for the firm of Ducker, Montgomery, Lewis & Bess, P.C. since 2000 and is currently a shareholder.

John Joseph Briggs was appointed to the Weld County Court. He will take office on January 1st and will serve an initial term of two years. He currently works as an associate attorney for the Law Office of Robert E. Ray, a position he has held since 2004.

Debra Marie Gunkel was appointed to the Baca County Court, effective January 11th. Her initial term will be two years. Currently, she works as a sole practitioner.

Cindy Lu Wilson was appointed to the Jackson County Court. She wiill take office on February 9th and will serve an initial term of two years. Currently, she is a certified public accountant and has her own practice.[2][3]
