An effort to recall Greg Herrick in Clark County, Wis., from his position as sheriff was launched in February 2016.[1] The recall did not go to a vote because no signatures were turned in to the county clerk.

Mark Prior filed the petition to recall Herrick on February 22, 2016. He said the sheriff should be recalled because he was not being held accountable. Specifically, Prior condemned Herrick for refusing to enforce the state's Implements of Husbandry law, which regulates the weight of certain agricultural equipment on roads. Herrick has said portions of the law were unconstitutional. He also disagreed with Herrick's lawsuit against members of the county board who questioned his purchase of a nearly $35,000 pickup truck. The board ended up approving the purchase and the suit was dismissed, but Herrick appealed.[2]

Prior ran as a write-in candidate against Herrick in 2010 and received eight votes. He was also in the news in 2010 after he posted a racist sign that read "No Negro's Allowed!!" in downtown Abbotsford, Wis.[2]
