Hodgen Mainda
Hodgen Mainda is the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. He was appointed to this position by Gov. Bill Lee (R) on October 1, 2019, to succeed the former interim insurance commissioner Carter Lawrence.[1] Mainda resigned on November 13, 2020, to transition to the private sector.[2]
Biography
Prior to his appointment as insurance commissioner, Mainda was the Vice President of Community Development at the publicly-owned electricity provider Electric Power Board (EPB) in his longtime home of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mainda was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and came to the United States at age 22 to play rugby and study at Middle Tennessee State University.[3] His professional experience includes real estate development and management consulting in the private sector. Mainda also serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations in the Chattanooga area.[4]
